Globes Awards 2011

UK winners

Seven UK campaigns have won 10 awards in the worldwide MAAW Globes Awards.

This haul should put the UK in first place in terms of awars by country, ahead of the USA on six awards. Australia has five while Canada and Brazil both have four.

However, UK agencies will have to wait until the Globes Awards Dinner, which is being held in Rio de Janeiro on October 20, 2011, to find out whether they have actually won Bronze, Silver or Globes (the Gold award).

Edwin Mutton, IPM Awards chairman, says: “The fact that the UK appears to have done so well in the MAAW Globes this year underlines the fact that we are world-leaders when it comes to creative effectiveness in promotional marketing.”

Edinburgh’s Blue-Chip Marketing has won three Globes awards for the Winter Twenty-Ten campaign for VisitScotland, which took six IPM Awards and the IPM Grand Prix this year. River Marketing UK has taken two awards for its campaign for its Van Sales Academy World Cup for Mercedes-Benz Vans. Another five UK agencies have picked up an award each.

The awards dinner is taking place as part of the MAAW Fall Conference, being held at Rio’s Copacabana Hotel from October 19 to 22, 2011 (see www.maaw.org).

The only way that campaigns can qualify to enter the Globes is by winning an award in an accredited national scheme. In the UK, that means the IPM Awards. The Call for Entries for the IPM Awards 2012 will be online in November.

UK campaigns have won numerous awards in the Globes in the past. Agency Space’s Da Vinci Code activity for Eurostar took the Grand Prix in the Globes in 2007, while The Communications Agency’s ‘Give a Bob’ campaign won a Globe in the Best Cause or Charity Marketing Campaign category in 2008.

The shortlist for the European IMC Awards is expected imminently. As with the Globes, UK campaigns can only be entered if they have won an IPM Awards.
