UK agencies bring home trophies


UK agencies have brought home yet more international awards, underlining once again the strength of the UK’s promotional marketing industry.

VisitScotland’s Winter Twenty Ten campaign created by Edinburgh-based Blue-Chip Marketing, which took seven trophies including the Grand Prix at this year’s IPM Awards, capped that with a Globe (Gold), a Silver and a Bronze at the worldwide MAAW Globes Awards ceremony.

The Globes awards ceremony was held in Rio de Janeiro on October 20, 2011.

Globes also went to OgilvyAction for its Scotch Pop-Up Tape Pass the Parcel campaign for 3M and Agency Space for its Smithy the Horse promotion for Heineken UK.

Other UK agencies recognised in the Globes were: River Marketing; Arnold KLP; Haygarth; SMP; Positive Thinking; Steam UK and JWT London.

But the Globes ‘Best of the Best’ went to a US agency, Arc Worldwide, USA for its “Arm Yourself for the Ones You Love” campaign for US pharmacy chain Walgreens. The campaign was aimed at getting people to have flu vaccinations and featured heart-shaped bandages provided to mothers on which they could write in the names of the people they were protecting by getting their flu shots.

The campaign inspired 5.4 million people to get flu shots in just five weeks.

Meanwhile, UK agencies brought even more booty home with them from the European awards, the IMCs, operated by the European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA).

Arnold KLP’s The Big March for Beatbullying took a Gold and a Silver, while Blue-Chip’s Winter Twenty Ten added another three Silvers to its already impressive haul.

O2 Goals, by Manchester-based Blue Chip Marketing (UK) Ltd (a completely different agency to Blue-Chip in Edinburgh) took two Silvers and a Bronze.

The only way that a UK campaign can qualify for entry into either the IMC European Awards or the MAAW Globes is by first winning an award in the relevant national programme. In the UK, this is the IPM Awards.
