Lee McCarrick, Business Development Manager of eventeem in Cardiff tells us what they’ve been up to over the past few months, their thoughts on ensuring the right staff for the right event, and what he’d say to a senior new business target if he had 30 seconds with them in a lift.

IPM: Hi Lee , thanks for talking to us. How are things going at eventeem at the moment? 
LM: What a pleasure, I have read a few of these interviews in the past and its great to be doing one myself with the IPM. Life at eventeem is going very well indeed thanks. Given that I’m still relatively fresh here, I’m still basking in that ‘honeymoon’ period. The truth is I’ve joined the business at a very exciting time and things are progressing at a steady pace, the vibe is certainly good in these parts!

IPM: How is your business developing and evolving – any interesting plans for the rest of the year you can share with us?! 
LM: Well…given my working title I should have a good answer for this one. I have been brought on to indeed grow a business that has evolved nicely over the past decade. eventeem prides itself on delivering a flawless service and maintaining exceptionally high standards. As we enter the industries ‘silly’ season we are once again here as an extension to our creative agency clientele, providing them all with impeccable staffing solutions they need for their experiential campaigns. We continue to support all our regular agency friends and excitingly add new business to what is now looking like a great spring/summer roster. The latest piece of exciting news is that eventeem have recently acquired a sister company EK Temps, whom offer staffing solutions across the Beauty Industry so watch this space… 

IPM: How do you back up your USP - providing the right staff for the right event? 
LM: We recognise that our staff have different strengths, personalities, appearances and interests, so naturally fit some brands better than others. Our approach to staffing is focused on recognising and embracing these attributes and using this information to perfectly match our staff to each booking. Due to the processes we have in place, we ensure that our handpicked staff are consistently in the loop with up to date comms from our staffing team. We have a rigorous onboarding process, we insist on knowing as much as we can about all our staff, all of the time. Let’s be honest though, we are dealing with humans, people change, life gets in the way, so the best thing we can do is pick up the phone. Our staffing team are in constant contact with our UK wide database and we encourage all our ‘eventeemers’ to keep us in the loop with anything and everything they are doing. The majority of our staff have a freelance lifestyle, so they are constantly picking up new qualifications, learning new things and gaining new interests, these are all vital in ensuring we match them to the right jobs.

IPM: You find yourself in a lift with a new business target, you've got 30 seconds to make an impression on behalf of eventeem - what would you say and do?
LM: I’d take a much more humane approach rather than the typical sales pitch, I believe in our services, that will reflect in itself. More than likely I’d refer to something I’d seen or read about their business and make a connection via the likely inevitability we both know the same person (LinkedIn approved of course). I’m much more interested in creating working relationships that last. The industry provides a variety of demands at times, so knowing you are working with like-minded people is vital. Get to know your clients (or potential ones), they are human like you!
