Convenience store chain Spar has appointed Blue Chip to runs its first shopper push. Spar claims to be the world’s largest international food chain, with more than 12,000 stores in 34 countries. It will unveil its first shopper activity in August. Details are under wraps, but the push will run in more than 2,000 of Spar’s UK stores. Blue Chip scooped the work without a pitch. Spar’s head of marketing Philippe Rondepierre said: "Blue Chip’s work on big convenience brands such as Irn-Bru, Tizer, and Rubicon, as well as store groups such as the Co-operative, make it a natural first choice to help with our first shopper marketing campaign." Myrtle Doyle, group account director at Blue Chip, added: “We are working on a campaign that will get people to re-evaluate not just Spar, but also their relationship with the brand.” The account will be run from Blue Chip’s London office. The agency is currently recruiting in the capital to handle Spar as well as other new business.
