Metro, the world’s biggest international newspaper, has launched “The Offside Game”, a football-themed interactive web app aimed at engaging a broader audience than just core football fans. The game was designed for Metro by marketing agency Futureproof. It allows users to take control of the off-field antics of an international footballer and gain points as their notoriety increases relating to the media coverage they generate. The Offside Game allows users to customise an avatar and unlock scenarios and accessories by entering codes found in Metro’s paper and digital formats. The website launched yesterday, the day the World Cup started, and is being promoted in a variety of territories, including Chile and Russia. Jeremy Bryant, vice president of global marketing for Metro, says: "It has been an exciting journey to create a different kind of football game, engaging not only hardcore football fans, but reaching broadly out into the metropolitan audience. In close collaboration with Futureproof, we managed to create a game that engages across all our channels, bringing the paper to digital and digital back to the physical paper. "
