Big Deals Local launch to offer shoppers targeted local promotions

Friday August 22, 2014 at 3:28pm
A new content platform designed to give consumers a tailored, bird’s eye view of new products, deals and promotions in local stores is set for launch in October by serial entreprenuers Bryan Duffy and Matt Norbury. Called Big Deals Local (bigDL), the platform is currently in beta stage. It enables retailers to provide targeted, timely and relevant news and offers to shoppers via online and mobile channels through proximity alerts on the high street. Its backers say the tool also improves the in-store experience via a mobile couponing system that can help reduce queue times by allowing customers to quickly tap and redeem their vouchers, thereby negating the need for pen and paper coupon redemptions. BigDL also utilises in-store beacon technology to ‘alert’ customers to their retailers’ relevant offers. It then enables promotions to be tracked from delivery to redemption by individual shoppers. The platform also enables customers to save and share exclusives deals, new products and latest fashions. It also offers rewards to customers on purchase through the epoints scheme, which has be adopted at over 2,000 online retailers, publishers and stores. Duffy, who has invested more than £17million in the business, is chair of BigDL, while Norbury is founder and CEO. Norbury said: “BigDL is a pioneering, disruptive new content platform that will revolutionise the market for both shoppers and retailers. We've created a platform that provides consumers with genuine value and retailers with an end-to-end system for managing, planning and delivering the best deals and value-add communication for customers. The retailers’ ability to react is transformed with our approach to real-time communication and we’re only at beginning in terms of what can be done. “Time, range of choice and convenience are all key factors in the BigDL experience. By sourcing the most up to date, relevant deals, we locate items consumers are looking for instantly and for the best value cutting unnecessarily wasted time and money.” Duffy added: “In order to create affordability, the annual cost of our premium package is less than 10% of the wages of the average paid to a single shop employee. Retailers, with no capital investment required and no financial risk can use bigDL to galvanise their own omnichannel capability as bigDL promotes their high street shops and also their online and mobile offerings.”
