Free pens top most used promotional products list

Nearly nine in 10 business people have a branded pen on their desks, making pens the most-used promotional item. In a survey carried out as part of Promotional Products Week 2014, business people were asked to list the promotional items they actually had on their desks. Pens topped the poll with 89.3% having them, well ahead of the item in second place, mugs, with 65.4%. Third equal were calendars and Post-It notes and similar on 54%. Just over half of the respondents have branded promotional notebooks on their desks. It also seems that brand names showcased on promotional products are memorable. A massive 83% of those surveyed could confidently name the company featured on an item on their desk; more importantly, 73% had actually gone on to purchase from a company that had sent them a branded promotional product. Gordon Glenister, director-general of the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA) which commissioned the research as part of its activities for Promotional Products Week, says: “It’s remarkable that, as our survey shows, 89.3% of business people had a branded promotional pen on their desk from an organisation – whether it’s from a hotel, bank, conference, exhibition stand or given by a supplier.” Business people across the UK participated in the survey, which is part of Promotional Products Week 2014. This took place from September 15 to 19, and celebrated the power of promotional products as a key part of the marketing mix. BPMA members took part in a range of activities including open days, events and hospitality, new product launches and special offers, as well as the BPMA Student Design Innovation Awards, which is run in conjunction with Brunel University.
