Channel 5 supported the launch of new TV series Gotham with experiential activity at Waterloo and Victoria stations in London, Manchester Piccadilly and Glasgow Central, where brand ambassadors dressed as 1950s American news vendors handed out copies of the Gotham Chronicle newspaper to morning and evening commuters. The Warner Bros show is set in DC Comics’ Batman universe, but some years before the main Bruce Wayne/Batman stories. The newspapers include stories referencing the main characters in the new series, many of whom are younger versions of characters who appear in the later Batman stories. 20,000 copies of the paper – described by Channel 5 as “limited edition collectors’ items” – were handed out. Channel 5’s marketing team put the campaign together, and it was executed by PS Live, through Vizeum for the London activity and Sketch for the Northern activity. PS live also provided the casting for London. Channel 5 Digital Media promoted the paper at all the stations involved.
