Topps and Daily Star Premier League stickers promotion

Tuesday January 27, 2015 at 6:28pm
Topps Europe has teamed up with Premier League players and UK national newspaper the Daily Star to sample thousands of signed football stickers to readers across the country. To celebrate the launch of Topps’ latest launch, the Merlin Premier League 2015 Sticker Collection, the collectibles company has put together a six-day promotion with the newspaper in a bid to get as many readers as possible ‘stuck in’ to the latest edition of the popular annual football collectible. Activity kicked off on Saturday January 24, when sheets of six Premier League Stickers were given away with every copy of the day’s Daily Star, targeting over 420,000 people. Premier League stars Bobby Zamora, Leighton Baines, Steve Sidwell and Michael Dawson have each personally autographed 1,000 of their Merlin stickers, which were randomly inserted into lucky copies for fans to find. From Monday January 26 to Friday January 30, coupons will run in the Daily Star each day, enabling readers to redeem additional sheets of six stickers in Morrisons, One Stop and MRG stores nationwide. The marketing activity has the potential to reach over 2.1million people and is one of the biggest promotional bursts for the collection, which profiles the biggest stars of the current Barclays Premier League season and features the very latest player photographs, home and away kits and club badges. Topps Europe was formed by the take-over of UK collectables company Merlin Publishing in 1995 by US trading card and collectables giant, Topps. While the company name was changed to Topps Europe, some product ranges are still branded Merlin. Merlin had acquired the rights to publish Premier League collectables in 1994. Topps Europe also publishes Match Attax, the official Premier League trading card game, which is the biggest selling boys collectable in the UK. Topps frequently works with brands on promotions – for example, in December 2014, Kellogg’s launched a Topps Match Attax cards promotion on promotional price-marked boxes of Corn Flakes Coco Pops and Variety Packs.
