Pizza Hut’s snap promotion to celebrate the arrival of Princess Charlotte saw participating restaurants running out of free pizza within hours. In an attempt to tap in to popular sentiment following the announcement that that Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's newborn daughter would be called Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, the fast food restaurant chain announced it would be offering free pizzas to the first women named Charlotte through the doors of selected outlets. Although the press said it would be 100 pizzas at each outlet, posts on Facebook suggested the number varied. Not all consumers seemed happy with the promotion, with one commenting on PizzaHut’s Facebook page that the offer was “discriminatory” and others complaining that it was not available in their area (including, ironically, someone from Cambridge) . The promotion was available at selected branches only, including ones in London, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Edinburgh.
