McDonald’s heat-sensitive billboard gives out free McFlurries

McDonald's in Amsterdam has run a promotional stunt featuring a heat-sensitive billboard that handed out free McFlurry frozen desserts when the temperature hit 38.7° C, beating the record temperature for the city. The ‘McDonald’s Challenges the Sun’ stunt was created by outdoor advertising media company JCDecaux and ad agency TBWA/Neboko and took place in the city’s Dam Square. When the temperature hit the right level, the front of the billboard opened up and waiting consumers were able to grab one of 100 cardboard McFlurry cups. They could then take them to nearby McDonald’s outlets and claim their free frozen treat. The billboard offered a choice of Rocky Road, M&Ms, Kit Kat and StroopWafel McFlurrys. The billboard featured a digital display which showed the temperature to create anticipation among the waiting crowd. A video of the promotion is available on TBWA/Neboko's YouTube channel.
