Starbucks in the US has signed a multi-year deal with ride-hailing app Lyft which allows drivers and customers to earn rewards through the My Starbucks Rewards loyalty scheme. All Lyft drivers will have the option of becoming My Starbucks Rewards loyalty program gold level members, and both Lyft drivers and riders will have the opportunity to earn MSR loyalty Stars redeemable for food and beverages at participating Starbucks stores. In addition, riders will be able to give Lyft drivers Starbucks eGifts in place of a tip. Adam Brotman, chief digital officer of Starbucks, says: “This is a great win/win. Our digital loyalty ecosystem will strengthen Lyft’s ability to attract and retain customers in a highly profitable way, while at the same time accelerating the incrementality of redemption of rewards.” Lyft is a mobile app that connects people in need of a ride with nearby drivers. The app is available for iPhone or Android, with all payments handled using saved credit card details. Lyft launched in June 2012 and is now in more than 65 US cities. Lyft drivers can be identified by the glow-in-the-dark pink moustache symbol on their front windscreens.
