National Trust brings #lovethecoast campaign to the city

Wednesday September 2, 2015 at 9:02am
The National Trust has been backing its #lovethecoast campaign, aimed at inspiring the nation to embrace the great British coast, with a full sensory experience featuring a giant sea shell which gives members of the public the opportunity to see, smell, hear and taste the sea this summer without leaving the city. The Shellsphere event visited London, Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Belfast during August. People could go inside and experience the aromas of salty sea air, caves, rock pools, the sounds of the waves and seagulls, as well as magical interior lighting. The event was backed up with a consumer competition, where the best seven pictures posted online using the #lovethecoast hashtag won a Panasonic LUMIX Digital Camera DMC-TZ70, provided by Panasonic, one of our National Trust’s corporate partners. An interactive coastal photobooth was also on hand to capture the experience. The free interactive encounter was designed to be suitable for all ages. With research showing that despite one in five Brits dreaming of escaping to the coast, the number of people visiting the coast has dropped by 20% in the last decade, the National Trust decided to bring the great British coast to the city to help the nation reconnect to the magical experiences the seaside can offer. Over the summer, the Trust has also been running a TV ad featuring poet Dr John Cooper Clarke who has been working on the ‘Nation’s Ode to the Coast’. The Trust has been inviting members of the public to contribute to the poem through words, pictures, social media posts or even sounds, with submissions made using #lovethecoast. Mischief PR were behind the sea shell tour, which was built by Hothouse
