Catherine Shuttleworth, CEO and founder of Savvy Marketing, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Committee of Advertising Practice’s Sales Promotion and Direct Response Panel. The SPDRP consists of senior figures from the promotional marketing industry and provides invaluable advice and opinion to the ASA and CAP. It offers a practical industry perspective on a range of regulatory subjects including the interpretation and application of the Codes, the drafting of Help Notes and revisions to the rules. James Best, Chairman of CAP, says: “Catherine was a natural choice to chair this important panel. Her broad knowledge of this fast-changing sector will be invaluable in ensuring that a practitioner’s perspective feeds into all aspects of the work of CAP and the ASA in this area through the input of Panel members.” Shuttleworth founded Savvy in 2006 and has grown the business to become a leading and award-winning agency. The company of 80+ people works with a broad base of clients both in the UK and globally. The agency is a member of the Institute of Promotional Marketing, and Shuttleworth has been closely involved in IPM activities for many years, including serving as a judge in the annual awards. After graduating with a degree in retail marketing, she worked in the retail marketing space both client- and agency-side. In addition to being an active member of the IPM she is also a member of The Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) and a well-established expert in shopper marketing. She regularly appears on high profile programmes including BBC Breakfast and BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours and in the retail and marketing trade press. Graham Temple, Chairman of The IPM says: “We are delighted that one of our members has been chosen for this important role on the SPDRP panel, particularly as self-regulation is currently at the forefront of the IPM’s agenda. Catherine, an IPM Diploma graduate, has also been an active member of the IPM for many years and I look forward to collaborating with her in her new capacity.” Shuttleworth will take up her role in October. CAP is an integral part of the UK’s self-regulatory system governing advertising and marketing. It is the body which writes the rules which marketers in the UK must follow. Promotional marketing comes under the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing.
